Keeping an Indoor Cat Happy in an Apartment
· 4 min read

Vertical space, a clean litter box and ten minutes of play twice a day.
Indoor cats live longer and safer lives away from traffic and dogs, but they depend on you for exercise and interest.
- Go up: a cat tree or shelf by a window is the best entertainment a cat can have.
- Scratching is a need, not naughtiness. Provide a tall, stable post.
- Play like prey: move a wand toy away from your cat, let them catch it, then feed a treat.
- Keep the litter box spotless and away from food.
- Secure balcony railings and windows with mesh, since cats do fall.
A second cat can help, but only with a slow introduction over a couple of weeks.
