How to Choose the Right Dog Food
· 4 min read

Age, size, activity and budget: four questions that narrow hundreds of bags down to two or three.
1. Life stage
Puppies, adults and seniors have different needs. Look for the words 'complete and balanced' for your dog's life stage.
2. Size
Small-breed food has smaller kibble and more energy per bite. Large-breed puppy food controls calcium for steady bone growth.
3. Sensitivities
Itchy skin or frequent loose stools may improve on a sensitive-skin or single-protein recipe. Give a new food at least six weeks before judging it.
4. Budget
A food your dog does well on and that you can afford every month beats a premium bag bought once. Compare the cost per day, not the cost per bag, because feeding amounts differ.
What about home food?
Rice with meat is common in Nepal, but on its own it lacks calcium and several vitamins. If you home cook, ask your vet about a balanced recipe or mix with a complete food.
